Firecom Usb Wireless 54mbps Driver

I just bought a Zonet ZEW2500P Wireless USB Adpater 54Mbps from newegg.com and the connections I get is capped at 11Mbps. And I read some of the reviews and someone said they installed a windows driver and was runnin at 54Mbps. Also they were talking about some Windows Xp Wireless zero Configuration service for WPA encryption? What is that exactly do I need it? Im not connecting to my own wireless network, just to whatever is around my area. I usually get the encrypted secure ones, and some unsecure ones that I can actually use but the signal drops very low most of the time with those ones and I can't stay connected.

Do I need to download the Ralink driver that one of the reviewers mention to get connected to the secure conenctions? What is WPA and WEP and whats the diffrence? Heres the reviews from newegg I was talking about, This part is a bit long but just read the bold print if your too lazy: Very good reception, ultra-compact size for desktop, easy to The ZEW2500P is a unique 802.11G USB wireless adapter in that it is marketed as a 'desktop version'. It is about the size of five or six stacked credit cards, so I suppose it will fit even the tiniest of desktops. Most likely, it is just a USB pen-style adapter in a different style case. That being said, it does perform well.

It consistantly maintains a 54Mbps connection and a 95%+ signal from about 90 feet. It comes with a 3ft long USB cable, so it is pretty easy to move around. The software driver works well, but the provided 'monitor' utility is sorely lacking.

You'll need to use Windows XP wireless zero configuration service for configuration if you want to use WPA encryption - because Zonet's utility does not directly support WPA (even though the box lists WPA). If you plan to use this adapter under Windows 2K, 98, 98SE or ME - you won't be able to use WPA with the provided software - only WEP. However, the manufacturer of the chipset (Ralink) used in this adapter publishes it's own updated driver and utility software. This updated software will support WPA directly on all windows operatings systems, and the utility is slightly nicer overall.

This updated software is not yet available directly from Zonet - download the 2500 chipset software directly from Ralink. In summary, this is a great little wireless USB adapter - so long as you use Windows XP wireless zero configuration or update the driver and utility to the lastest provided by the chipset manufacturer. No problems whatsoever This is the first wireless adaptor I've ever owned and so far, it's worked perfectly. I installed the drivers, restarted computer, plugged in the adaptor, it automatically found and connected to the network in just a few seconds after startup and I was ready to go! In case you are wondering, it is backwards compatible with USB1.1 and will automatically switch from 802.11b to 802.11g depending on what network it connects to (this may be obvious to you, but this is the first time I've had a wireless system so it surprised me that it did it automatically). Like some people have said, the included configuration tool is a little too bare-bones and you're probably better off using Window's Wireless Zero program. I noticed that my roomate's Linksys adaptor can identify more networks in the neighborhood, so it may not have as good an antennae as the competition.

In either case, it still registers as having 'excellent signal strength' to my own network. Highly recommended. Good but no WPA in Windows 2000 I did not buy mine from Newegg.

The adapter has good range, but not spectacular. However, it has no WPA for Windows 2000 and Zonet Tech Support told me they will not update software. Just so you know if WPA is crucial to your w2k. Works well under Linux rt2400.sourceforge.net Bought one of these after giving up in frustration with a 802.11g PCI card.

This adapter worked immediately with the current rt2570 driver from rt2400.sourceforge.net. I'm just using WEP, so your mileage might vary. May Need Ralink Driver Instead of Zonet Driver I had problems with Zonet ZEW2500P crashing Windows XP when connected to an NEC chip based PCI USB 2.0 port. I luckily found out that Zonet ZEW2500P was built on Ralink chip. When the original Zonet driver was replaced with the Ralink driver ( ), Windows XP no longer crashes. I am now able to browse the web without XP crashing Decent product, junky software This device seems to work pretty well once I got it going. However, if you have WinXP SP2 I recommend not following the directions that state to install the software.

Instead, connect the adapter, and use the CD or a download for the drivers, and use the Windows wireless software to configure everything. The software that came with it kept locking up on me and never seemed to find my wireless router. Works fine with the built-in Windows software, as long as the driver is installed. Use windows driver. Loaded fine, used the Zonet driver (Ralink) and max speed was 11mbps, so updated driver to windows driver and now is 54mbps. Cool little adapter - very small.

Thanks Newegg! Bug w/ Windows xp, sp2 With all the good reviews of this product, I have to point out that the configuration utility does not work under Win Xp, sp2 on the compaq presario laptop. Contacted tech support of Zonet, they admitted that they are some problems.

How To Save Ebook From Chegg Coupon. We need to use the configuration utility that comes with Xp to make it work. Once it works, yes, it works better than other cards I had. Up and running in 10 minutes Just got mine today and tested it with my W2k box. Ran setup on the CD, rebooted, plugged it in and it found my AP and my neighbors (it's open ).

Clicked on the 'monitor' icon, setup WEP 128 and good to go. Works with Netstumber too. Can't beat the price.

The device is about the size of a credit card, can slip into your shirt pocket. USB cable is almost 3ft long.

Et Si On Parlait Tubes Pdf Creator. What a deal, thanks Newegg. Better than products that cost 2x as much I bought a Netgear wireless router which came bundled with a USB wireless adapter. I have one computer on the second floor and one in the basement.

The Netgear adapter consistently had a low signal, the max speed I saw was 24 MB and it dropped the network connection at least every hour. Plugged the Zonet adapter in and the signal was rated as Very Good, has never dropped below 36 MB (and is consistently 54 MB). Needless to say, I was impressed. I did have some issues getting the software to work initially, but then read the manual (duh) and found that you need to disable the Windows network configuration. Once that was done, we were off and running.

Great product, even better price. The Netgear adapter runs at least double the price and has half the performance. I'll probably pick up another of these for a third computer. N/A, 8/1/2005 3:14:21 PM Bought one of these to try it out. I liked it so much I bought two more for the rest of the computers in the house.

To make it work faster download the newer driver at the company website. I also had to disable the monitor software on one computer to make it connect faster and at 54g speed. On another computer the self install let me pick the Windows XP driver and it loaded no problem. As usual Newegg got it here a day early. Excellent and well supported This is a great usb wireless device.

It uses the Ralink RT2570 and RT2526. Ralink is a great vendor who releases full documentation to free software developers. This thing is cheaper than any other wifi card out there and has the best support on OpenBSD. It is just a little software radio and supports a very very wide range of media types (literally over a hundred). Why pay extra for proprietary crud when you can buy this excellent and well supported device? Ralink chipset works well in Linux Newegg (as usual) shipped extremely fast. I picked this up because it has the Ralink chipset and I was tired of Wireless USB devices not working in Linux.

Ralink has released GPL drivers. And they work well!

I had a great experience! Zonet 802.11g 54Mbps Wireless USB Adapter, ZE2500P After having problems with a USR 5416 wireless PCI network card I give this USB adapater a try. I had my wireless router setup to acknowledge specific MAC addresses. If your modem is setup the same way, remember to reprogram the router with the new MAC address and remember to disable (if you have Windows XP) the Windows wireless configuration feature so the Zonet software can take over the communication protocols. This adapter card works like a champ and has a strong signal.

The reason I didn't give it a 5 rating is because it lacks the ability to run at 106 Mbsp. Otherwise you can't beat the price or the performance (or Newegg's outstanding service.) If your PCI sockets are full, or you don't feel like digging into your computer case, then this is the card your looking for. Similar product I own the ZEW2000P, the 802.11b version of this product. I have had awesome performance with the product, even at a distance I have full power. If this version works as well as the past version, then this is the best buy for your money.

Don't spend more, Zonet is just as good, if not better.
